The Path to Leadership

In the Future Leadership Camp, emerging talents discover their strengths, develop leadership skills, and learn from experienced colleagues. Through hands-on projects and teamwork, they take on responsibility, actively contribute to the SPIE business unit, and build a strong network for their future.

Pfullendorf, August 28, 2025 – How do you find out what’s inside you and whether you could take on more responsibility in the future? That’s exactly what SPIE’s Future Leadership Camp is for – our program for the leaders of tomorrow.

Young talents from all over Germany get to know each other and participate in exciting workshops where they learn the following:

  • Personal Development
What strengths lie dormant within me and how can I use them sustainably for myself and my work?
  • Leadership Skills
How do you motivate teams and successfully drive projects forward with colleagues?
  • Practical Projects
In small teams, work is done on current trends and projects, e.g., on topics such as digitalization, sales and marketing, AI, or sustainability

At the Future Leadership Camp, both the project manager and project mentors, as well as executives, accompany the participants.
This way, they can get tips, benefit from the experience and expertise of their colleagues, and gain real insights into the topic of leadership.

The Future Leadership Camp is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about fostering genuine collaboration. It’s impressive to see how quickly participants take on responsibility, contribute ideas, and develop solutions together. As a project sponsor, I am delighted to accompany and support young talents on this journey.

The camp participants get to know many new people from the entire SPIE Industry Service & Wind business unit and travel to various SPIE locations for the workshops. There, they not only spend sociable team evenings but also jointly delve into new topics. This builds strong bonds – not only during the camp but also afterward.

Why we have our own leadership program
The Future Leadership Camp has grown and been continuously improved over the years. Meanwhile, colleagues from across the entire SPIE Industry Service & Wind business unit can expand their skills there. Because clear communication, strategic planning, and a respectful approach are values that are essential for a modern leader.

Good leadership is so much more than delegating tasks: It is collaboration, appreciation, trust, motivation, communication on equal terms, and above all, seeing everyone in the team as individuals. Only then can we reach our goal together and in the long term.

Another core element is independent project work. For this purpose, participants are divided into three groups at the beginning. Care is taken to ensure that each group includes representatives from different companies and professions. This ensures an exchange with truly new perspectives and actively promotes collaboration among the individual SPIE branches.

The Future Leadership Camp offers our future leaders the opportunity to discover unknown aspects of themselves and receive valuable feedback. For me personally, I also gained a lot, for example, by seeing through the diverse projects what challenges and exciting topics exist in every company and how we can tackle them together.

Independent, but not alone
The project sponsors are available to the teams as sparring partners for support. However, it is solely up to the participants to structure and organize their projects. This way, they can immediately apply their newly acquired management knowledge in practice. During the camp, there will be an interim and a final presentation. And the best part: The teams do not work in a vacuum. All projects will be implemented after the Future Leadership Camp. This way, participants can not only make their successes visible but have also actively advanced the SPIE Industry Service & Wind business unit. A win-win for all sides.

Networking is key: getting to know people from different companies and understanding what each of them does. For example, thanks to the connections made at the Future Leadership Camp, a collaboration in the area of “creating security studies with AI” has now emerged, outside of the camp.

Generally, all colleagues who aspire to a leadership position within the company are eligible for the camp.

The Trainee Camp was a great experience for me. I was able to develop both personally and professionally while also making valuable contacts within the business unit. I found the mix of team spirit, exciting discussions, shared learning experiences, and “aha!” moments particularly inspiring. A highlight was the close collaboration with my project team – together, we worked on a topic that creates real added value for the entire business unit.
