AUTOMATIC PALLETIZING
WITH A COBOT FROM UNIVERSAL ROBOTS

Automatic palletizing with cobots enables efficient and precise handling of products on pallets. By integrating robots, companies can palletize flexibly and cost-effectively. A simple gripper change allows for a quick switch from a vacuum gripper to a parallel gripper for boxes.

How Automated Palletizing with Cobots Works

The end-of-line application of palletizing is monotonous, strenuous, and costly. When lightweight robots are used, you benefit from numerous advantages:

Cobots work hand in hand with humans and take over repetitive tasks like stacking products on pallets. Integrating cobots into the palletizing process can increase your productivity, reduce error rates, and optimize your workflows.

A classic palletizing process consists of 4 steps, which can be individually expanded or adapted depending on the task.

1 Programming

When programming the robot, the dimensions of the products, their arrangement on the pallet, and other relevant environmental parameters are taken into account.

2 Object Pickup

Once the robot is programmed, it begins picking up products from a conveyor belt or another feeding source.

3 Position Detection and Object Placement

The cobot uses its sensors and cameras to detect the position and orientation of the products and place them precisely on the pallet. Parallel collaboration with humans is not an issue.

4 Inspection and Correction (if Necessary)

After all products are placed on the pallet, the cobot checks the stacking and corrects errors if necessary. The process can then continue until the pallet is fully loaded or the desired stacking configuration is achieved.

How You Benefit from Automatic Palletizing

Boost Performance

Automatic palletizing with collaborative robots

Automation plays an increasingly important role in industry. The use of palletizing systems with robots is standard in the industry and necessary to remain competitive in the (global) market. Robots take over repetitive tasks with high payloads.

More Flexible Production

Automatic palletizing with collaborative robots

Thanks to the collaborative and precise operation of cobots, companies can optimize their production processes, increase efficiency, and simultaneously reduce costs.

We Support You During Implementation

1

Evaluation of Your Processes

The process flow and components (weight, size, etc.) are coordinated on-site, and all necessary components and functions are documented by our team.

2

Configuration of Your Custom Application

This is followed by the selection of the correct robot model, including suitable tools and add-ons. A special focus is on the cycle time. In order to keep this as short as possible, the question of possible interfaces must be asked in advance in order to make the process even more effective.

3

Delivery and Commissioning

After receipt of order and delivery, commissioning by a SPIE AUTOMATION expert follows.

Possible Components of Your Automated Palletizing System

Cobot: UR10e from Universal Robots

The UR10e robot is the largest industrial robot arm, designed for tasks where precision and reliability are crucial for greater reaches and higher loads.

Cobot zur Pallettierung: UR10e von Universal Robots

Base: Palletizer by Robotiq

A fully integrated vertical axis for optimal performance and reach. It is the perfect choice when it comes to handling a variety of carton sizes and pallet heights in production.

Thanks to its high cycle time, the robot pays for itself faster than other robot solutions, because the robot’s optimized, synchronized motion control and the 7th axis make it exceptionally powerful. Seamless movements also give a robot a longer lifespan.

Gripper: 2FGP2 by OnRobot

The OnRobot 2FGP20 electric gripper features a large stroke and customizable arms. It was specifically designed for easy handling of heavy or open boxes, finished shelf products, and other containers such as Euro containers (plastic KLT containers). These are difficult to handle with conventional vacuum grippers. The 2FGP20 can be programmed intuitively.

With a versatile payload of 20 kg, the gripper is ideally suited for handling food packaging, Tetra Paks, and fast-moving consumer goods such as toiletries, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical products.

Gripper: Vacuum Gripper from Robotiq

The Robotiq vacuum gripper is suitable for a variety of applications. They are ideal for picking up workpieces (uniform or irregular) made of different materials such as cardboard, glass, sheet metal (dry), and plastic.

The Robotiq vacuum grippers have a variable mount and a unique air node. These ensure complete control over the gripper – ideal for your applications.
