Material handling
with a Cobot from Universal Robots

Universal Robots’ robots handle material efficiently, optimizing workflows.

How automated material handling with Cobot works

Universal Robots brand robots are the perfect addition when it comes to material handling. By using Cobots, tasks are completed quickly, easily, and, above all, reliably. SPIE AUTOMATION has accumulated know-how over the years and acquired a wide range of competencies. This makes us your ideal partner for a smooth project execution and achieving your goals.

Nowadays, a robot is no longer acquired to replace an employee. Rather, existing employees should be supported so that the human-robot team can achieve unprecedented output. This way, companies increase their efficiency and simultaneously reduce their costs.

With proper planning, the robot works completely autonomously and alone during a shift. It is important that there is always a healthy cost-benefit ratio.

A classic process in material handling is bin picking, i.e., picking from a bin. It consists of 4 steps that can be individually extended or adapted depending on the task.

1 Part Recognition

The robot moves to a defined position and uses the camera to recognize the exact position of the product.

2 Gripping

Due to the integrated AI, knows the robot, how to Grippers position and removes the component.

3 Object Placement

As soon as the component gripped has been, moves the robot a predefined path and places the component precisely at a specific location.

4 Safety

The Cobots from Universal Robots are with a force-torque sensor equipped, which the partial work without protective equipment enables.

How You Benefit from Automated Material Handling

Increase Efficiency

Lightweight robots are capable of handling materials with high speed and precision. This leads to a significant increase in overall efficiency in the material handling process.

Cost Savings

Robots reduce operating costs because they ensure continuous and reliable handling despite decreasing personnel costs.

Workplace Safety

The automation of material handling reduces the risk of accidents and injuries, as human workers no longer come into direct contact with heavy or dangerous materials.

24/7 Operation

Robots work continuously, without breaks or rest periods. This maximizes production time, which is particularly advantageous in industries with high production demands.

Precision & Consistency

Lightweight robots perform tasks with high precision and consistency, which leads to consistent product quality.

Flexible Production

Robots can be easily programmed and adapted to various material handling tasks.

Resource Efficiency

Through precise movements and optimized use of resources such as energy and space, robots help reduce the ecological footprint.

Data Availability

The robot data can be used for analysis to further optimize efficiency and performance.

We Support You During Implementation

1

Evaluation of Your Processes

The process flow and components (weight, size, etc.) are coordinated on-site, and all necessary components and functions are documented by our team.

2

Configuration of Your Individual Application This is followed by the selection of the correct robot model, including suitable tools and add-ons. A special focus is on the cycle time. To keep these as short as possible, the question of possible interfaces must be asked in advance in order to make the process even more effective.

3

Delivery and Commissioning

After receipt of order and delivery, commissioning by a SPIE AUTOMATION expert follows.

Intelligent Camera System

Hand-eye coordination is one of the most complex challenges in robotics. What humans learn naturally and instinctively in their first year of life is one of the biggest hurdles in automation: seeing, recognizing, and gripping objects. Using the AI-based robobrain® and the industrialized 2D/3D camera robobrain.eye, robominds gives the robot intelligent perception. Human-like gripping thus becomes a reality.

VISOR® Vision Sensors for Factory Automation

With its portfolio of vision solutions, Sensopart covers a wide range of industrial image processing. The basis of the VISOR® Vision Sensors is a powerful smart camera in a compact and lightweight sensor housing. This offers innovative solutions such as a target laser for easy mechanical alignment or motorized focus for automatic adjustment to your individual working distance.
