Unique Opportunity: The Siemens Truck makes a stop at SPIE ESCAD

SIEMENS offers students the opportunity to familiarize themselves with all SIEMENS components in its rolling classroom.

Pfullendorf, April 12, 2025 – A truck full of technology, curious vocational students, and a school day well spent: Recently, two years of electronics students from the Willi-Burth vocational school visited the control cabinet workshop at SPIE ESCAD. There, training manager Manuel Schuler is currently training four young people to become electronics technicians for industrial engineering. Working with SIEMENS components is part of their daily business.

In cooperation with the vocational school in Bad Saulgau, the idea was born to make this practical experience accessible to even more students: with a visit from the SIEMENS Truck, in which all of the company’s modern industrial components are exhibited and explained. The SPIE ESCAD site in Pfullendorf, with its large parking lot and the directly connected control cabinet workshop, offers ideal conditions. As luck would have it, both the second and third years of the electronics apprenticeship had regular classes that day, so two year groups benefited from the offer at once.

Experiencing technology instead of just talking about it
Inside the truck itself, an insight into the entire range of modern control technology awaited: main switches, contactors, relays, and PLCs – everything SIEMENS has to offer in this field. And not just to look at, but to touch. For the students, this was real added value, as schools usually only have standard modules available – not least for budget reasons.

“Many of the components shown here are things apprentices usually don’t see until later in their professional lives – if at all,” says SPIE ESCAD training manager Manuel Schuler. “This made it all the more exciting for the participants to hold modern technology directly in their hands and have the opportunity to pepper our experts with questions.”

Awakening and fostering curiosity
The students’ reactions were positive across the board. Some were so thirsty for knowledge that they didn’t want to leave the truck. The event was very well received not only by the students but also by the teachers. They also asked many questions in order to be able to bring the latest developments closer to their students in class. Apprentices from smaller companies in particular, who work with fewer or simply different resources, were able to expand their technical knowledge with this experience.

A strong signal for vocational training
The fact that SIEMENS, as the market leader in this field, goes to such lengths shows that it is about more than just product presentation. It is about inspiring future specialists for technology and giving them practical insights. The SPIE ESCAD training team is also pleased to be able to contribute to strengthening the electronics profession.
