Autonomous Mobile Robots
and the Goods-to-Person Process

An efficient solution for your warehouse and distribution logistics is the automation of goods-to-person picking. Picking robots are used in complex warehouses and industrial environments that have an intelligent warehouse system.

This is what the Goods-to-Person process with an AMR can look like

From conventional Person-to-Goods (P2W)...

In Person-to-Goods picking, an employee must go to the goods in the warehouse, select them, pick them, and then transport them to the shipping area. Manual picking is time-consuming and leads to human errors.

... to modern Goods-to-Person (W2P)

In Goods-to-Person picking, the products are instead brought to the employees. This approach not only reduces the walking times of the employees, but also enables better organization and control of the inventory. Unlike fixed conveyor systems, AMRs offer high flexibility and adaptability to changing production environments and work requirements. The fleets are easily scalable and can quickly respond to fluctuations in order volume. W2P is particularly suitable for larger warehouses with standardized goods.

Possible workflow for Goods-to-Person picking (W2P):

1 Order/Demand Receipt

The picker orders the items for the pending orders via the master control system. This triggers the order in the warehouse management system and simultaneously starts a transport mission in the MiR Fleet Software.

2 MiR Fleet Receives the Order

The MiR Fleet software receives the transport mission and calculates the best route to the correct storage area. This route can vary, for example, depending on the warehouse layout and priority.

3 Transport to the Picking Area

The warehouse worker places the required items on the MiR’s logiRACK top module and specifies the transport mission via the integrated display. The AMR now travels the best route to the picking area, where the items or components for the picking orders are collected. The picker checks the collected items to ensure they are correct. If necessary, they are rearranged or sorted.

4 Transport to the Shipping Department

After the picker has assembled the orders, they place the boxes on the AMR. Then they start a transport mission to the shipping area, where the boxes are prepared for shipment. This can include packaging, labeling, and sorting the items. These steps can also be fully automated, for example, with the help of a collaborative robot arm (cobot). The AMR is simultaneously ready to receive a new order.

Optimize your Goods-to-Person (W2P) process

Improved Logistics Performance

Our AMRs transport goods faster and more efficiently than humans. This increases overall logistics performance.

Resource Savings

Our AMRs optimize the use of your resources because less personnel have to manually move goods.

Precision and Accuracy

Components are automatically brought to employees. This reduces the likelihood of human errors.

Full Operational Flexibility

Fleets can be flexibly adapted to new requirements and scaled as needed.

Your Ideal AMR Solution with Mobile Industrial Robots

Mobile Industrial Robots is a leading manufacturer of collaborative, mobile robots (AMRs).

Modern Transport is Automated

All robots from Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) are user-friendly, flexible, safe, and make operations more efficient. The autonomous MiR robots belong to a new generation of mobile robots that quickly pay for themselves – often in less than a year.

SPIE ESCAD has been a MiR Excellent Partner for many years. Our customers therefore directly benefit from quick collaboration, our team’s expert knowledge, and attractive offers.

How we support your project

1

Evaluation of Your Processes

The process flow and components (weight, size, etc.) are coordinated on-site, and all necessary components and functions are documented by our team.

2

Configuration of Your Custom Application

This is followed by the selection of the correct robot model, including suitable tools and add-ons.

3

Delivery and Commissioning

After order receipt and delivery, commissioning is carried out by a SPIE ESCAD expert.

Industries Where Automation with AMRs Pays Off

Workshops

AMRs help improve the efficiency of workshops by optimizing workflows and reducing employee travel distances.

Warehouses and Distribution Centers

AMRs optimize material flow in warehousing and increase the level of occupational safety for employees.

Automation

AMRs integrate seamlessly into highly automated production facilities and cover all tasks that can be variably automated.

Possible Components of Your Automation Solution

AMR with Top Module: MiR250 with logiRACK

The logiRACK top module is a multi-flexible shelving system. This transport frame can be attached to your robot, providing ample space for all products and materials – stored in KLTs, blisters, packages, loose, or in your special transport container. By the way: All compartments are individually adjustable to your required height.
