Initial Situation

In production, a left and a right plastic component are produced with each cycle of the injection molding machine. Previously, an employee performed the subsequent assembly step: They place the parts on the workstation, add a metal part, assemble the three components, and place the finished products into plastic containers. After every 18 finished parts, the full container must be manually replaced with an empty one.

This manual process ties up working time and carries the risk of quality deviations. To stabilize processes and relieve employees, this work step is automated with the help of E.FLEX.

Solution

Assembly of Plastic Parts Automated by E.FLEX

1. Component Pick-up

The injection molding machine produces a left and a right component and places both on the conveyor belt. The cobot on the E.FLEX BASE picks up the plastic parts and precisely positions them in the application-specific tool set.

2. Metal Part Feeding

The E.FLEX SORTER handles the buffering and separation of metal parts so that they are correctly provided for assembly.

3. Assembly Process
In this case, the tool set is responsible for the exact positioning of the plastic parts during the assembly of the three components. This results in a finished product of consistent quality.

4. Placement & Container Management

The cobot automatically places the finished product into a plastic container. The E.FLEX FEEDER continuously provides empty containers and simultaneously buffers the full containers, so that manual intervention is only required after longer intervals.
