Hamburg, August 17, 2025 – The ADAC Cyclassics are among Europe’s largest amateur cycling races – and this year, the Hanseatic city was once again the venue for a very special event. With the start and finish at the Binnenalster, Hamburg transformed into a mecca for cycling fans. Among those present: our SPIE AUTOMATION colleagues Christian and Moritz, who thoroughly enjoyed the weekend both athletically and socially.
From the Expo to the Elphi – a kick-off with highlights
Christian and Moritz arrived already on Friday and checked into their hotel in the late afternoon. But instead of immediately putting their feet up, they headed straight to Hamburg City Hall Square to pick up their race documents. Afterward, a short warm-up ride was on the agenda: over the ‘Hamburger Berge’ (Hamburg Hills) and along the Elbe dike. On Saturday, the ONE SPIE Team met for a photo session before a real highlight followed: an exclusive guided tour of the Elbphilharmonie, including the backstage area, organized by colleagues from SPIE Efficient Facilities. For many, an unforgettable moment – and a perfect example of how team spirit extends beyond sports.
Race Sunday: 110 Kilometers, Full Power, and Goosebumps
Sunday morning meant an early start: Precisely at 8:00 AM, the starting gun fired for Christian, Moritz, and several other riders from Team ONE SPIE in starting block F. They rode the 110 km route – the classic. It led through fast sections, small hills, and cheering streets. Moritz raves about the atmosphere: “Spectators stood everywhere along the route, cheering enthusiastically and creating real goosebump moments, especially on the hills and in the finish area.” Even though everyone rode at their own pace, the team spirit was always palpable. They called out to each other, exchanged a few words on the route, or met again at the finish line, where depleted energy reserves were immediately replenished.
Preparation, Organization, and Personal Highlights
The on-site organization was thoroughly impressive: From registration to the well-marked route and catering – everything ran smoothly. Personal preparation also paid off: Christian and Moritz had trained regularly throughout spring and summer, supplemented by after-work rides in Niedernberg. The short warm-up ride on Friday evening in Hamburg then provided the final polish and truly built anticipation for the race. Athletically, the ONE SPIE Team performed impressively:
- Christian achieved second place in the internal ONE SPIE ranking.
- Moritz finished in seventh place.
- The entire Team ONE SPIE secured eighth place.
Team Spirit That Connects
Whether on the bike, at dinner, or at the joint events: The team spirit was present throughout the entire weekend. Christian and Moritz agree – the Cyclassics not only thrilled them athletically but also strengthened camaraderie at SPIE. After this successful performance, it’s clear: anticipation for the next round is already beginning. Thanks to everyone who participated – and of course, to Christian and Moritz for their strong commitment!
