School vocational exam passed

Bad Saulgau, April 17, 2024 – Yunus Özkaraaslan and Liam Gradwohl have reached the first milestone of their apprenticeship: the practical vocational exam after the first year. The two spent several days at the Willi-Burth-Schule in Bad Saulgau for this purpose. In the mornings, they received their assignments and then created, for example, a circuit diagram and a parts list. Over the next two days, they used these to develop actual switchgear systems.

One was the clockwise/counter-clockwise rotation of a motor, as used for example in conveyor belts (Fig. 1). The circuit includes two indicator lights, a supply line, an M1 module, two contactors (Q1 + Q2), the fuse, and two motor protection switches (F1 + F2).

The other was a board installation of an on/off circuit (Fig. 2). It includes a socket, a residual current circuit breaker, a circuit breaker, and a staircase lighting timer. The circuit simulates a simple building installation (similar to a mini fuse box). Here, the signal is cross-switched via three points.

The exam was rounded off by a technical discussion. In this, our apprentices were asked to explain their reasoning and approaches, giving them the opportunity to demonstrate their background knowledge.

A lot will change for Yunus and Liam in their second year of apprenticeship. While they could only be at the company one day a week in the first year due to vocational school, it will be four days a week starting in September. This will give them even more opportunities to support projects over the long term and work independently. But first, the two can head off for their well-deserved holidays!
