E.Flex in Practice - Example: Plastic Injection Molding

E.FLEX particularly demonstrates its strengths where many manual operations are still required today.
The following example from plastic injection molding production clearly shows how recurring, time-consuming work steps can be automated through E.FLEX’s modular design – with consistent quality and significantly reduced personnel effort.

Manual Process – Before

The injection molding machine produces a left and a right plastic part.
Employees take the parts from the conveyor belt, add a metal part, and assemble the component.
After 18 finished products, full KLTs must be manually replaced.

➡ Result: High personnel requirements for monotonous tasks, manual quality assurance, low process stability.

Automation with E.FLEX – Afterward

A robot from the E.FLEX Base removes the plastic parts and transfers them to the application-specific toolkit, in this example, a positioning aid for assembly.
The Sorter Module separates the metal parts and makes them available.
The toolkit precisely positions the parts and handles the assembly.
The robot automatically places the finished product into KLTs.
The Feeder Module provides empty containers and buffers full boxes.

E.FLEX Modules

E.FLEX BASE

The E.FLEX BASE basic module can be operated with various tools that perform simple as well as complex tasks. E.FLEX BASE offers standardized interfaces for additional modules.

Base module around which other modules can be quickly arranged. It is the foundation for a reconfigurable automation system.
Cobot offers local flexibility.
New tasks can be quickly taken over.
Standardized series module, therefore cost-effective and quality-assured. Long ramp-up and optimization phases are obsolete.
Operating status is indicated via LED status lights.
Can be operated collaboratively without additional protective housing.

E.FLEX FEEDER

The FEEDER automatically provides up to five boxes or containers (600 × 400 mm) for the production process. Full or empty boxes are changed independently, ensuring continuous operation without interruption. Thanks to its compact design, the module requires minimal floor space.

Consists of proven and stable mechanics, is suitable for 24/7 operation, and robust in demanding daily production.
Operates space-efficiently. Finished boxes are stored beneath waiting boxes, reducing the footprint to a minimum.
Can be operated collaboratively without additional protective housing.
Handles transport containers reliably.
User-friendly, automation knowledge is not required.
Works plug-and-play with all base units of the E.FLEX series.

E.FLEX SORTER

The SORTER module separates bulk material parts such as screws or bolts and automatically provides them in the correct orientation for the production process. An integrated vision system recognizes the shape and position of the parts, thus ensuring maximum flexibility, fast setup times, and reliable processes – even with complex geometries.

Separates and aligns parts of various sizes and shapes.
Learns the handling of new parts and desired processes in record time. This means the module pays for itself very quickly.
Offers absolute process reliability, even with complex part geometries.
Requires no elaborate mechanical separation systems. Simplicity and flexibility are unsurpassed.
