Hohentwiel Vocational School Singen Students Visit

Pfullendorf, May 15, 2024 – Automation is on everyone’s lips due to the shortage of skilled workers. German industry is struggling to find capable employees and has long since discovered that robots can take the strain off their staff. Their robot colleagues handle repetitive and monotonous tasks, while in-house teams can build their expertise and use it more profitably. Fifteen students from Hohentwiel Vocational School Singen were able to see these and other automation options for a company for themselves at SPIE ESCAD’s site in Pfullendorf.

The visit began with a warm welcome and a brief introduction by Manfred Hirt (Head of Control Engineering) and Thorsten Kulik (Head of Lightweight Robotics and Intralogistics). They gave an overview of SPIE ESCAD’s business areas, from engineering to robotics and digitalization, through to manufacturing and the trading of industrial electronics.

The students were then guided around the SPIE ESCAD premises in small groups and even got a short history lesson at the SPIE ESCAD history wall in the entrance area. The program that followed consisted of three key topics:

Robotics
Using various SPIE ESCAD reference projects, the first student group learned how robots are used in industry. They then saw it in practice in the company’s own showroom. Not only are there collaborative robots from Doosan Robotics, but autonomous mobile robots from Mobile Industrial Robots are also in action. As a small highlight, the students were also allowed to look over the shoulders of the colleagues in the neighboring control cabinet workshop for a bit.
