Fifteen tech-minded students from Hohentwiel Vocational School in Singen got a close-up look at automation. At SPIE ESCAD in Pfullendorf, the class went behind the scenes and was able to gain lots of new knowledge through many practical examples. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Pfullendorf, May 15, 2024 – <\/strong>Automation is on everyone\u2019s lips due to the shortage of skilled workers. German industry is struggling to find capable employees and has long since discovered that robots can take the strain off their staff. Their robot colleagues handle repetitive and monotonous tasks, while in-house teams can build their expertise and use it more profitably. Fifteen students from Hohentwiel Vocational School Singen were able to see these and other automation options for a company for themselves at SPIE ESCAD\u2019s site in Pfullendorf. <\/p>

The visit began with a warm welcome and a brief introduction by Manfred Hirt (Head of Control Engineering) and Thorsten Kulik (Head of Lightweight Robotics and Intralogistics). They gave an overview of SPIE ESCAD\u2019s business areas, from engineering to robotics and digitalization, through to manufacturing and the trading of industrial electronics. <\/p>

The students were then guided around the SPIE ESCAD premises in small groups and even got a short history lesson at the SPIE ESCAD history wall in the entrance area. The program that followed consisted of three key topics: <\/p>

Robotics<\/strong>Using various SPIE ESCAD reference projects, the first student group learned how robots are used in industry. They then saw it in practice in the company\u2019s own showroom. Not only are there collaborative robots from Doosan Robotics, but autonomous mobile robots from Mobile Industrial Robots are also in action. As a small highlight, the students were also allowed to look over the shoulders of the colleagues in the neighboring control cabinet workshop for a bit. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Software<\/strong>For the second group, the focus was on software development and commissioning. Here, the future technicians were also shown\u2014using reference projects\u2014how test bench technology works. They also learned more about embedded systems, explained using the example of \u201cradar technology.\u201d <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Engineering<\/strong>The third group looked at day-to-day work in electrical and mechanical design as well as retrofit. Using a completed project, the entire lifecycle of a system\u2014from project start to completion\u2014was explained step by step and illustrated with images and examples. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Interest was high. The students asked numerous questions, which led to lively discussions. Alongside Peter Herr (Deputy Head of Software Department) and Christian Mayer (Head of Design Team), Thomas Strohmaier (Software Developer) was also very pleased: \u201cFrom the quiet whispers, I could tell the students were really surprised by how many interesting things we do here at SPIE ESCAD and how broadly we\u2019re positioned with our knowledge and work.\u201d <\/p>

The students\u2019 direct feedback was also positive. According to a final survey, they found their trip to SPIE ESCAD very informative. The class particularly praised the demonstrations of the autonomous mobile and collaborative robots in the showroom. The detailed insights into the design and development processes were also very well received, so the participants found the visit highly enriching. We are very pleased with this praise. We would like to thank Hohentwiel Vocational School Singen for their visit and our motivated in-house experts for their support in promoting the next generation of technicians. <\/p>

In the future, SPIE ESCAD plans to hold more events of this kind. Laura Siebenhaller (Recruiting and HR) is convinced that school class visits to companies benefit everyone involved: \u201cStudents get the opportunity to benefit from our colleagues\u2019 expertise and experience, ask questions, or try out products for themselves. And in return, we\u2019re of course always happy when one or two interested students like it so much here that they want to start with us after graduating.\u201d <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
